Mugoni beach
Long beach in the Porto Conte bay, a paradise for families

Mugoni beach opens for almost two kilometres on Porto Conte bay — called by the Romans *Nymphaeus Portus*, "port of the nymphs" — one of the most sheltered bays in Sardinia. It is part of the Porto Conte Regional Park, with an Aleppo-pine forest behind. The shallow water that stays such for tens of metres, the waves absent thanks to the bay's shape, and the shade of the pine forest make Mugoni the most beloved beach for families with small children on the Coral Riviera.
The Bay of the Nymphs
Porto Conte bay is an almost circular inlet five kilometres across, sheltered to the north by Capo Caccia and to the south by Punta Giglio. This makes it one of the few Sardinian bays where the sea stays almost always calm, even on the strongest Mistral afternoons. The water is crystal-clear, with a fine sandy bottom that makes swimming very safe for children. The pine forest behind, about seven hundred metres deep, is a picnic area and home to campsites and historic tourist facilities — Alghero's first tourist development was born here in the 1960s.
Services and what to do around
Large paid parking (€5 per day in summer), parasol and sunbed rental, two restaurant-pizzerias a few steps from the sea, kiosks for ice cream and sandwiches. A sailing centre also operates with lessons and rental of sailing boats, SUP and kayaks. Nearby worth visiting are the Sella & Mosca winery (6 km away) for a vineyard tour, the Palmavera nuraghe (2 km), and the Porto Conte Park with trekking trails through scrub and cliffs. An afternoon at Mugoni plus dinner at an inland farm-stay is a much-loved formula.
