The Lido di San Giovanni is Alghero city's beach, a long sandy stretch running over two kilometres between the old harbour and the Maria Pia pine forest. Less than ten minutes on foot from the apartment, it's the natural choice for those who want to combine a seaside holiday with city life: five minutes from bed to first swim, another fifteen to the Bastioni with an aperitivo in hand.
The Lido and its promenade
The Dante Valsecchi promenade runs along the beach with a palm-lined path, perfect for strolling and for running at sunset. The sand is pale and fine, the water shallow for several metres — excellent for children — with a sandy bottom that keeps its clarity even on slightly windy days. Kiosks, bars, parasol and sunbed rentals along the whole shore, free public showers, and a dog-friendly area to the north.
Who the Lido beach is for
It's the beach for those who want the sea without giving up the city: families with young children, athletes running early in the morning, anyone who doesn't want to get in the car. Full services — bars, pizzerias, rotisseries — all around. In summer it's busy, but its length always lets you find a quieter stretch to the north. At sunset the horizon turns gold, with Capo Caccia silhouetted in the distance: one of Alghero's most beautiful evening shows.
